Introduction of Marijuana
Introduction of marijuana into western medicine.
Despite it’s wide use in the Eastern and Chinese medicine, marijuana was introduced into western medicine only less than two hundred years ago. In 1830th and Irish Physician William Brooke O’Shaughnessy conducted the first experiments with cannabis, while he was an Assistant-Surgeon and Professor of Chemistry at the Medical College of Calcutta. He was the first to help patients treat their muscle spasms, stomach cramps and general pain with medic cannabis and there fore can be credited for introducing marijuana into modern medicine. Unfortunately marijuana was classified as a drug in the early twenties century and was eventually prohibited for nearly the whole century. Only recently it was legalized in certain parts of the world.
Today medicinal marijuana is still not a widespread medical drug, but is already available in many parts of the US and some european countries. You can say that finally humanity is walking out of the marijuana prohibition and very soon will embrace all the healing qualities of proper cannabis.
